Description

Overview

The Crown Automotive T90 is a rubber transmission mount for the T90 and T86 transmissions, part number JA006156. It is a direct fit replacement that fits early Willys MB and CJ Jeep models from 1941 through 1971.

Rubber transmission mounts hold the drivetrain in the frame and absorb engine vibration. This mount is rubber and is designed for the T90 and T86 transmissions.

Key features

  • Rubber mount material
  • Built for T90 and T86 transmissions
  • Direct fit design
  • Crown Automotive part number JA006156

Fitting the mount to older Jeeps

Early Jeep transmissions such as the T90 and T86 sat on a crossmember that carried most of the drivetrain weight, and a rubber mount there works as a cushion between the gearbox and the frame. On these older vehicles the rubber often hardens and splits, which lets the transmission rock during shifts and transmits more engine vibration to the cabin. Because the mount is one of several drivetrain supports, a worn cushion can also strain the shifter linkage and nearby exhaust hangers.

Before installing a new mount, look at the crossmember for rust, cracks and enlarged bolt holes, since an old frame bracket can make a new mount sit at an angle. Remove the old mount with the transmission supported, and clean the bolt threads before reassembly. Many restorers replace the rear mounts and crossmember bushings at the same time, so the drivetrain sits evenly. After a few drives, check the fasteners again, because rubber can settle as it takes the load.

Questions & Answers

Does the Crown Automotive JA006156 fit the T90 transmission?

Yes. It is designed for the T90 and T86 transmissions. Check that your transmission is one of these before installing the mount.

Which Jeep models does the JA006156 mount fit?

It fits 1941 to 1971 Willys MB, CJ-2, CJ-3, CJ-5 and CJ-6 models, including 1959 to 1971 CJ3, CJ5 and CJ6 entries. Wrangler and CJ7 models do not fit.

What material is the T90 mount made from?

Rubber. The product specifications list the mount material as rubber, with a direct fit design and part number JA006156 from Crown Automotive.

How do I know if the transmission mount needs replacing?

Look for cracked or split rubber, a transmission that sits low or moves excessively, and clunking when shifting between gears. Compare the old mount's shape and bolt positions with the new part before removing anything.

Can a worn mount be replaced without lifting the vehicle?

Often yes, if the transmission can be supported from below and the mount bolts are reachable. A jack under the transmission pan or a supported crossmember makes the job safer, so do not rely on the mount to hold the weight.
