Overview
The Crown Automotive 83502829 is a front output yoke for NP207 or NP231 transfer cases. It has 26 splines and a strap and bolt style design, and it is built for a Spicer 1310 series u-joint with a 3.219 inch outside diameter.
It fits the 1987–1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ. The strap and bolt attachment differs from a u-bolt design, so compare the mounting style with your current yoke before fitting it.
Key features
- Fits NP207 or NP231 transfer cases
- 26 splines
- Strap and bolt style design
- Designed for a Spicer 1310 series u-joint
Mounting style and fit
Strap and bolt yokes clamp to the output differently than u-bolt designs, so the mounting surface and bolt pattern matter more than on a simple u-bolt yoke. Before work starts, check the bolts, the strap, and the surface they clamp to for wear. A worn strap or elongated bolt hole can allow movement that loosens the driveline over time.
The yoke is built to use a Spicer 1310 series u-joint, so the joint and yoke should be checked together. Use new fasteners when the yoke is changed, and torque them to the specification in your service manual. After the first short drive, recheck the hardware for looseness and inspect the joint for play.
- Inspect strap and bolt holes for wear
- Use new fasteners at reassembly
- Recheck hardware after the first drive
