Overview
The Rugged Ridge 11238.51 is a black four-way roller fairlead for winch lines on off-road vehicles. It has a solid steel body that holds four steel rollers, which keep winch line running evenly across the drum and reduce friction on the cable.
The roller design is meant to protect the winch line from damage and help extend cable life. It mounts to any standard winch plate or winch-ready bumper and is a universal fit, so it is not tied to a specific vehicle.
Key features
- Four smooth-cycling steel rollers
- Solid steel body
- Rollers help winch lines wind evenly across the drum
- Reduces friction on the cable
- Black powder-coated finish
- Mounts to standard winch plates or winch-ready bumpers
Keeping winch line running true
Winch line wears fastest where it rubs against the edges of a fairlead or bumper opening, and where it bends at the drum. A guide that lets the line run straight in and out of the drum reduces that scuffing. Four rollers give the line several contact points that turn as it moves, which spreads the wear.
Matching the fairlead to your setup comes first. Check that the bolt pattern and mounting points suit your winch plate or bumper, and that the roller spacing is wide enough for the line diameter you run. Stainless or zinc-plated hardware can resist rust, though the powder-coated steel body still needs occasional touch-ups.
Once mounted, run the line out and back under light load and watch for rollers that stick or line that rides up on one side. Wipe off mud and grit after trips, and check the roller axles for play.
- Check the bolt pattern against your plate or bumper
- Confirm roller spacing suits your line diameter
- Wipe grit from the rollers after trips
