Overview
The Power Stop Z36-369 front brake pads are Z36 Truck and Tow disc brake pads for 1988–2000 Chevrolet and GMC C/K trucks, Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, Blazer, Escalade and Dodge Ram 1500.
Power Stop positions Z36 Truck and Tow pads for owners who regularly pull trailers, carry cargo or descend long grades. In Power Stop’s description, the Z36 compound beats OE pads on coefficient of friction by 17 percent.
Key features
- Carbon and ceramic friction formula
- Thermal scorched finish
- Chamfered and slotted like the OE pads
- Powdercoated backing plate
- Noise insulating shims
- Hi-temp lubricant included
- Direct fit with the stock caliper, front position
Older GM truck front brakes
Trucks and SUVs from this era often have stock calipers and rotors that have been in service for many years, so inspect them before fitting new pads. Front brakes carry most of the stopping force on these vehicles, especially with a trailer or cargo. A higher friction level can help on long grades, but it works best when the rotor surface is flat and clean.
Before installation, clean the caliper bracket and confirm the slide pins move freely. Bed in the new pads with moderate stops so the friction layer transfers evenly to the rotors. Pulsing, pulling or a soft pedal can show that rotors, calipers or hoses need service alongside the pads.
- Inspect the rotor for grooves and cracks
- Replace worn brake hoses during the same job
- Keep the noise insulating shims in place behind the pads
