Description

Overview

The XMR12 is a rod end, also called a heim joint, with a 3/4-16 right hand thread and a 3/4 inch bore. It is made for building tie rods, track bars, radius arms and link bars. It is a universal fit part, so the right choice depends on the thread and bore your build needs.

The hole in the ball has the same diameter as the shank on the threaded body, so the rod end pairs with tubing and bars sized to that shank. Left and right threads are offered in the most popular sizes.

Key features

  • 52100 bearing steel ball
  • Teflon/Kevlar self-lubricating race
  • Race-car quality construction
  • Alloy steel heat-treated body
  • Ball hole diameter matches the threaded shank
  • Jam nut included
  • Available in right and left threads

Rod end maintenance

A rod end is a wear part, and its ball and race gradually lose the smooth fit they had when new. Signs of wear include play you can feel by hand, a clunk when the link changes direction and a joint that feels stiff in one spot. Check the joint at each service, and replace it when play becomes noticeable rather than waiting for a failure.

Self-lubricating races reduce the need for grease, but dirt and grit still get into the joint over time. Keep the ball clean and wipe away debris after off-road use. If the joint has a grease fitting, use it at the intervals suited to your driving.

  • Check for play by hand at each service
  • Clean debris from the ball after trail use
  • Replace the joint once play becomes noticeable

Vehicle fitment

Confirm fit for your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering. Check the shank size, thread and bore your tie rod or track bar requires.

Rod ends are matched by shank, thread and bore, so confirm the 3/4-16 right hand thread and 3/4 inch bore fit your existing tube or bar before assembly.

Installation notes

The included jam nut locks the rod end at the length you set once it is threaded into the tube or bar. Confirm the right hand thread matches the other end of your link before assembly.

Questions & Answers

What is the Mountain Off Road Enterprises XMR12?

The XMR12 is a rod end, or heim joint, from Mountain Off Road Enterprises, part number XMR12. It has a 3/4-16 right hand thread, a 3/4 inch bore and a 52100 bearing steel ball, and it is used to build tie rods, track bars, radius arms and link bars.

Will the XMR12 fit my Jeep or truck?

No vehicle is named for the XMR12, and it is a universal fit rod end rather than a part for one model. Check that the 3/4-16 right hand thread and 3/4 inch bore match the tube or bar you are assembling.

Does the XMR12 come with a jam nut?

Yes. A jam nut is included with the XMR12. The rod end has a 3/4-16 right hand thread, so the jam nut is used to lock it at the length you set in your tube or bar.

How do I know when a rod end needs replacing?

Replace it when the ball has noticeable play, the race is worn or the body shows cracks. Self-lubricating races reduce wear, but they do not last forever. Inspect the joint at each service and after hard use.
