Sand riding and tire feel
Soft sand rewards a tire that spreads weight and keeps its shape. A lighter casing reduces rotating mass, which makes throttle response easier to manage at low speed in deep sand. The tire’s flexibility also helps it conform to ruts and dune faces.
Pressure has a large effect on how a sand tire performs. Lower pressure widens the footprint and improves flotation, but it raises the risk of the bead rolling off the rim in hard turns. Set pressure for the conditions of the day and recheck it after changing terrain.
Sand is abrasive, so check the bead area and valve stem after rides, and rinse the wheel to remove grit before it works into the seal. Rotate or replace the tire when the tread is smooth or the sidewall shows cuts.
