Overview
The G2 Chrysler 9.25 Inch Ball Milled Aluminum Cover (part 40-2028MB) is a black cast aluminum rear differential cover for Chrysler 9.25 inch axles.
G2 designed it to protect the ring and pinion and to help cool the gear oil so the bearings last longer. The body is cast from lightweight aluminum, heat treated and shot peened to help it take direct impacts. The ball milled ribs add rigidity, and the mating face is machined all the way around, which G2 says prevents leaks.

Gear oil and cover care
A differential cover does more than seal the housing. Its surface helps move heat out of the gear oil, so keeping the cover clean and free of mud and debris supports that job. When the cover is off, check the gasket surface, the inside of the cover and the fill and drain plugs for corrosion or damage before reinstalling it.
Gear oil should be changed at regular intervals, and the fill level should be checked with the dipstick or fill plug. Dirty oil or low oil leads to heat buildup, and that shortens bearing life. Replace the gasket or sealant as the housing requires, and tighten the cover evenly to avoid leaks.
