Protecting the bed rail
A bed rail cap takes the wear where tools, coolers and tailgate edges rub the top of the bed. Most of the protection comes from a snug fit and a clean bond, so the mounting area matters as much as the part. Look at the rail for rust, flaking paint or old adhesive before fitting anything, because moisture trapped under the cap can cause problems later.
After installation, check the edges over time for lifting or gaps, especially after cold weather or rough drives. Wash the cap with mild soap and water and avoid strong solvents that can soften the plastic. If you later add a bed liner or tonneau cover, check that the edge clearance still lets the tailgate close and the cover seat correctly.

It also fits GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, 2500 HD and 3500 models from 1999–2007, each with its own trim set.
The list does not cover the 1988–2000 C and K pickups, which use part 49508, or any model year after 2007. Confirm your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering.
Installation notes
Because the cap is held by adhesive and screw clips, the bed rail is not drilled. Remove dust and wax from the rail before the cap is set, since the adhesive needs a clean surface to bond.
