Description

Overview

The Tuff Country 3 inch lift leaf spring (part number T/C19370) is a single rear leaf spring for Chevrolet and GMC trucks from 1973 to 1991. It covers K10, K20, K15, K25 and V-series pickups, Suburbans, Blazers and Jimmys, with a lift height range of 0 to 4.99 inches.

Tuff Country says its leaf springs are known for durability and ride quality. The springs are tapered, snub rolled, Teflon padded and pre-set, and each spring comes with polyurethane bushings.

Key features

  • 3 inch lift leaf spring
  • Single rear spring
  • Tapered design
  • Snub rolled
  • Teflon padded
  • Pre-set
  • Polyurethane bushings included

Rear suspension on older GM trucks

Rear leaf springs on these trucks handle both the load and the drive forces, so the spring, shackles and axle mounts work as one system. A new spring with a higher arch changes the axle angle and can move the pinion relative to the driveshaft. Check the driveline angle and the U-bolt torque after the spring is installed, and look for signs of driveline vibration on the first drives.

Shackles and spring hangers wear in these trucks and can make a new spring feel loose. Replace worn shackle bushings at the same time, and inspect the spring eyes for cracks. Bump stops are worth a look as well, since a change in ride height changes how far the axle travels before the stop contacts.

Questions & Answers

Is this spring for the front or rear?

Rear. The T/C19370 is a rear leaf spring, so it is not a front-position part. Front springs for these trucks are separate products in the same line.

Does this spring fit a 1978 Chevrolet K10?

Yes. It fits 1973–1986 Chevrolet K10 pickups in several trims, so a 1978 model falls within those years. Confirm the trim before ordering, since fit is broken out by trim package.

Is a second spring needed for a pair?

Yes. The kit is a single spring, so a second one is needed for the other side of the rear axle.

Should the rear shocks be checked when a rear spring is replaced?

Yes. A change in ride height changes the shock angle and travel. Inspect the shock mounts and bushings after installation, and look for leaks or bent brackets.

What wears first on an older rear leaf spring setup?

Shackle bushings, spring hangers and the spring eye bushings usually wear first. Look for play at the shackles, cracked hangers and a spring that has taken a permanent set.
