Overview
The TeraFlex 4920222 is a heavy-duty tie rod end with a small taper and right hand thread, sold individually. TeraFlex builds its heavy duty tie rod ends around a one-ton joint end, and this version is listed with the small taper rather than the large one-ton taper. Listed fitment covers the 2004–2006 Jeep Wrangler LJ and the 1997–2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ.
Key features
- One-ton joint end
- Small taper
- Right hand thread, 7/8 inch x 18 TPI
- Sold individually
Tie rod taper and thread basics
The taper is the tapered stud that seats in the knuckle, and it must match the knuckle bore for a secure fit. Two taper options are common on these joints, so compare the stud with the knuckle before ordering rather than after the old end is off. A mismatch can damage the stud or leave the joint loose under load.
Thread direction matters as well. Count the turns when threading the new end onto the tube so the length stays close to the original, which keeps the toe setting close before alignment. Mark the position of the jam nut so you can see how far the end has moved.
- Measure the old end’s length before removal
- Keep the boot clamp orientation the same
- Expect to adjust toe once the end is in
