Overview
The RE1630 is a front track bar relocation bracket for the 1987 to 1995 Jeep Wrangler (YJ). It is intended for lifts over 2.5 inches and for use with a drop pitman arm.
Relocation brackets and steering geometry
A track bar keeps the axle centered under the frame. When a lift raises the body, the track bar’s mounting point on the frame moves relative to the axle, and a relocation bracket restores a more level bar angle. A bar that runs at a steep angle can cause the axle to shift side to side at speed.
Relocation work changes steering geometry as well. With a drop pitman arm, the steering linkage sits at a different height, so the track bar, drag link and tie rod need to be checked together. Bracket fit and welds should be inspected once the bar is in place, and the full steering range should be tested before driving on the road.
- Check track bar angle at ride height
- Inspect bracket welds and bolt holes
- Test full steering lock after installation
- Recheck torque after the first drive
