Description

Overview

The Omix-ADA 16752.06 is a passenger side self-adjusting brake shoe lever for the rear drum brakes of the 1984–1989 Jeep Cherokee (XJ), 1982–1983 CJ5, 1982–1986 CJ7, 1982–1985 Scrambler and 1987–1989 Wrangler (YJ). It is supplied individually.

Omix-ADA builds these as direct OE replacement Jeep parts to original specifications, and each one carries a limited five year warranty.

Key features

  • Brake shoe self adjust lever
  • Passenger side
  • Supplied individually
  • Direct OE replacement built to original specifications
  • It has a limited five year warranty.

Replacing the self-adjust lever

The self-adjust lever links the adjuster to the brake shoe and moves the adjuster wheel a small amount each time the brakes are applied in reverse. Over time the lever pivot and its spring can wear, which reduces adjustment and can leave shoes too far from the drum. Symptoms include a brake pedal that drops farther than normal before the brakes engage, or an adjuster that will not turn freely when the drum is off.

Because the lever works with the adjuster, spring and shoe as one unit, it is often replaced alongside them during a rear brake job. Clean the pivot, check the spring tension and confirm the adjuster moves in both directions before reassembly. Since each side needs its own lever, plan to inspect both sides of the axle, and work through the steps one wheel at a time.

  • Inspect the pivot for wear or cracks
  • Check the spring for stretching or missing parts

Questions & Answers

Is the Omix-ADA 16752.06 a single lever or a pair?

The 16752.06 is supplied individually, so one part number gives one lever. A complete rear axle of drum brakes needs a lever for each side, so plan for more than one part.

Which side is the 16752.06?

It is the passenger side lever. The driver side lever for the same models uses a different Omix-ADA part number, so the two sides are not interchangeable by listing.

Does the 16752.06 fit a Jeep Scrambler?

Yes. It fits the 1982–1985 Scrambler, along with the 1984–1989 Cherokee XJ, the 1982–1986 CJ7 and the 1987–1989 Wrangler YJ, in the years shown.

How can I tell if the self-adjust lever needs replacing?

Look for a brake pedal that drops farther than normal before the brakes engage, or an adjuster that does not turn freely. Inspect the lever pivot and spring for wear, cracks or missing parts before reusing the lever. Replacing it during a shoe job is a practical choice.
