Overview
The AirLift Elbow Male 1/4 NPT x 3/8 Tube, part number 21851, is a male elbow fitting with a 1/4 inch NPT thread on one end and a 3/8 inch tube connection on the other. It is universal fit, so it is not matched to one vehicle.
AirLift has made air spring suspension products since 1949. Its range covers air helper springs for trucks, RVs, SUVs, CUVs and vans, along with on-board air compressor systems.
Key features
- 1/4 inch NPT male thread
- 3/8 inch tube connection
- Elbow shape for turning an air line
- Universal fit for air line use
Sealing NPT threads and tube joints
NPT threads are tapered, so they seal by wedging together as they are tightened. Hand-start the male thread into the port to avoid cross-threading, then tighten gently with a wrench. Going too far can split a fitting or a port, so snug it and stop once the joint stops turning easily.
A thread sealant or PTFE tape on the male threads helps prevent weeping. Keep the tape off the first thread so bits of it do not enter the air line. After assembly, brush soapy water on the joint and watch for bubbles before relying on the system.
- Cut tube square before pushing it in
- Support tubing so the elbow does not carry the weight of the line
- Replace a fitting whose threads look damaged
