Overview

Planning a 3-piece install
A three-piece bumper package has more joints and fasteners than a single-piece bumper, so it benefits from a careful fit-up before the final tightening. Make sure the front and rear sections meet the frame evenly and that the tire carrier swings clear of the rear door and hinge. Measure the clearance for the tire you plan to carry, since a larger tire can change the swing path and approach clearance.
Adding a third brake light bracket means the wiring for that light must be routed cleanly, away from moving parts and exhaust heat. Heavy steel bumpers change the weight balance of the vehicle, so suspension and steering components should be checked after installation. A tire carrier also adds weight to the rear, which can affect braking and handling when it is loaded.
