Overview
The Rubicon Express RE2440 is a complete rear U-bolt kit for the CJ model 20 rear axle. It fits 1976 to 1986 CJ models with a Model 20 rear axle.
The U-bolts are clear zinc plated and come with nuts and washers. Confirm the rear axle is a Model 20 before ordering.
Rear axle upkeep
Rear U-bolts work with the spring seat and axle housing to hold the leaf pack in place, so their condition affects the whole rear end. Inspect the bends for stretching or cracks, and look at the threads for rust or damage. Clear zinc plating helps resist corrosion, but scraped or pitted areas should be cleaned and checked. Recheck the nuts after the first few drives on a new setup, since a clamp can settle.
When the axle is pulled for service, inspect the spring seats and the axle housing around the U-bolt plates. Replace fasteners that show damage, and use fresh nuts and washers on reassembly. Wipe the threads clean and apply a light anti-seize if the setup will be serviced often, so the nuts come off later without damaging the threads.
