Description

Overview

The Rough Country 501055 is a 6 inch Ford lifted N3 front strut for the 2009 to 2013 Ford F-150. It is a direct fit for the front position and fits the FX2, FX4, Harley-Davidson Edition, King Ranch, Lariat, Lariat Limited, Limited, Platinum, STX, XL and XLT trims.

The strut only fits trucks with 6 inches of lift. The N3 lifted struts are designed to replace strut spacers on pre-existing lifted vehicles only, so this strut suits an F-150 that already has 6 inches of lift. It cannot be installed together with a strut spacer.

Each strut is nitrogen charged and comes with a pre-installed coil, which allows installation without strut disassembly. The N3 design has a massive bore, a chrome hardened piston rod, a leak-proof piston seal and a variable dampening system. It improves tire contact with the road for stability and performance.

Key features

  • 6 inch front lift for 2009 to 2013 F-150 trucks
  • Replaces strut spacers on pre-existing lifted trucks
  • Pre-installed coil spring
  • Nitrogen charged design
  • Massive bore and chrome hardened piston rod
  • Variable dampening system

Matching the truck

Before buying a front strut for a lifted F-150, confirm that the truck’s current lift is the height the strut is built for. A strut matched to the wrong height changes the spring position and damping, which can affect steering feel and tire wear. Checking the existing front end and any spacers helps avoid a mismatch.

Ask whether the truck has other suspension work, such as new shocks, upper control arm bushings or wheel offset changes. These parts interact with the front strut, and a worn bushing can make a new strut feel loose. Brake hoses and the steering components should also be looked over while the front is apart.

Regular checks after installation include the mounting nuts, the strut boot and any signs of leaks or noise over bumps.

  • Confirm the existing lift before ordering
  • Look at upper control arm bushings
  • Check mounting nuts after installation

Questions & Answers

Is this strut for a 2009 to 2013 F-150 with 6 inches of lift?

Yes. It only fits models with 6 inches of lift, and it covers the 2009 to 2013 Ford F-150 in the named trims. Check your front lift before choosing it.

How is this different from the 501003 6 inch strut?

The 501055 fits the 2009 to 2013 F-150, while the 501003 fits the 2004 to 2008 F-150. Both are 6 inch front struts, so check the model year before choosing one.

Can I run it with a spacer?

No. A spacer must come out before this strut is fitted, because the strut is not designed to be installed alongside one.

Can a worn bushing affect a new strut?

Yes. A worn control arm or sway bar bushing can make the front end feel loose and change how the strut loads. Inspect the bushings during installation and replace any that show wear.

Should the front tires be checked after this lift?

Yes. A front lift changes the suspension angles, which can cause uneven wear on the tires. Check the tread pattern and have the alignment set after installation.
