Overview
The Rancho RS55845 is a stock height front strut assembly for the 2019 through 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. It does not fit Trail Boss and AT4 models.
The strut is a Rancho RS5000X Series unit with progressive engagement valving, a tuned compression control valve, a gas pressurized, enlarged 2-1/4-inch twin tube body, and a 16 mm nitro-carburized rod. Its piston is a 1-3/8-inch sintered iron design in a full-displaced 35 mm bore, and the body diameter is 2.75 inches.
The RS5000X struts use Cross Tuned technology. The rebound valving system and advanced compression functionality were designed to improve handling and performance on and off road.

Choosing a stock height strut
Stock height struts are sized for factory ride height. They suit a truck that sits at the height it left the factory with, and they are matched to the spring rate and suspension geometry of the trims they cover. Mixing trim-specific parts is a common cause of poor handling, so start by confirming the exact trim of the truck. Stock height is the baseline for this design and is easy to verify from the truck itself.
Front struts are often replaced in pairs, and a wheel alignment is normally needed after the job. Check the tires for uneven wear before installing, since worn components upstream can hide the true condition of the new strut. Keep the protective boot in place during installation so dirt does not reach the rod seal.
- Verify trim before ordering
- Match ride height to the factory setting
- Replace struts in pairs
- Schedule an alignment after installation
