Overview
The Pro Comp 4042 is a rear CV-style, two-piece drive shaft for lifted Jeep Wrangler models. It is made for 4 to 6 inches of lift and fits the 2004–2006 Jeep Wrangler (LJ) Unlimited and the 1997–2006 Jeep Wrangler (TJ).
The shaft has a collapsed length of 15 inches and an extended length of 21.5 inches. Pro Comp designs it for use with its slip yoke eliminator kits, and the joint is a CV style.

Installing a rear CV shaft
A CV-style shaft handles the changing angles of a lifted rear more smoothly than a standard two-piece U-joint shaft, but its boots must stay intact. A torn boot lets dirt and water into the joint and leads to early wear. Check boots during routine service, and look for grease around the joint and clicking during tight turns, which often points to a worn joint.
Fit depends on both length and the transmission’s output position. Measure collapsed and extended length with the truck at ride height and again at full droop, then compare those measurements with the shaft’s length range before installing. Because Wrangler transfer case and axle angles change with the lift, check the pinion angle after installation and watch for vibration at highway speed. Owners often replace U-bolts and bushings at the same time when the rear is raised.
