Overview
It is a stock-length, non-CV front drive shaft for Jeep Wrangler (TJ) models with a 4.0L six-cylinder engine and a manual transmission. It fits the 1997–2002 Jeep Wrangler (TJ), including the Sahara, Sport and X trims.
The collapsed length is 39.49, the shaft is not a CV design, and no slip yoke eliminator is needed. It is a direct-fit front driveshaft.
Key features
- Front driveshaft at stock length
- Non-CV design
- No slip yoke eliminator required
- Direct fit to the listed Wrangler TJ
Driveshaft angles and wear
A front driveshaft transfers power from the transfer case to the front axle while the suspension moves up and down. A non-CV joint works well at moderate angles, but larger angles on a lifted or articulating vehicle can cause vibration. Keep the shaft’s working angle in mind when comparing the stock length with any suspension changes already on the vehicle.
Wear in a driveshaft often shows up as vibration at speed, a clunk when shifting between drive and reverse, or grease leaking from a joint. Inspect the yokes and universal joints for play, and check that the shaft is straight. Because the front shaft works with the transfer case and axle, a problem in one of those parts can feel like shaft trouble.
- Look for vibration that increases with road speed
- Check for grease leaking from the joints
