Passenger side installation tips

The passenger side inner is a separate part from the driver side, so confirm the side on the old shaft before ordering. Installing the new shaft on the wrong side wastes time, and the axle will not line up. Mark the old shaft’s orientation if the joint or clip groove is not symmetrical.

Full circle clips hold the shaft in the carrier, so the clip grooves need to be clean and free of burrs before reassembly. Replace the axle seal while the shaft is out, and check the bearing surface for scoring. Fresh lubricant in the carrier keeps the spline surfaces protected.

A longer shaft is more likely to flex during articulation, so check the joint angle once the axle is back together. Look for binding or vibration on the first drive, and recheck the clips and joint bolts after the first few trail runs.

Questions & Answers

Will this passenger side shaft fit a 1978 or 1979 Ford Bronco?

Yes. It is made for the 1978–1979 Ford Bronco. It also fits 1968–1969 Ford F-150 trucks, so confirm your model year and axle before ordering.

Is this shaft for the passenger side?

Yes. It is the passenger side front inner shaft, with 30 splines and a 33.91 inch overall length. Match the side on your axle before ordering.

Does it accept a standard U-joint?

This shaft takes a 5-760X U-joint and is cut for full circle clips. Neither the U-joint nor the clips are included, so plan to buy them separately.

Is a seal replacement needed during the shaft job?

Yes. The axle seal is easiest to replace while the shaft is out. A fresh seal keeps gear oil from leaking onto the brake components and helps protect the bearing surface.

What tools help seat full circle clips?

A clip installation tool and a soft mallet help seat clips without damaging the shaft. Clean the grooves first, and check that each clip sits fully in place before reassembly.
