Overview
The G2 Axle and Gear 98-2031-SEAL is a pair of outer tube seals for Dana 30 and Dana 44 axles. They seal the outboard end of the axle tube to keep dirt and sediment away from the inner axle seals.
They do not fit a passenger side axle with an axle disconnect. They fit Dana 30 Reverse, Dana 30 TJ and Dana 44 axle types.

Keeping axle tubes clean
Outer tube seals sit at the end of the axle tube where the axle shaft leaves the housing. They keep road grit and water from working inward, which protects the inner seals and the bearings. Over time, a worn outer seal lets sediment reach the inner parts, so it is worth checking during any axle service.
When replacing these seals, clean the tube end and the seal bore thoroughly before pressing in the new seal. Look for hardening, cracks or a flattened lip on the old seal, which show how it has been working. Grease and oil on the brake components or the inside of the wheel can point to a seal or inner seal leak.
