Overview
The Fox Racing Shox Fox 2.0 Performance Series Smooth Body Reservoir Shock, part number 985-24-110, is a front shock absorber for a 6.5 to 8 inch lift. It fits 1984 to 2006 Jeep Cherokee (XJ), Comanche, Grand Cherokee (ZJ and WJ) and Wrangler (TJ) models.
This bolt-on shock has a metal-impacted aluminum body and a reservoir design. The aluminum body is designed to shed heat, and the internal floating piston with a nitrogen gas chamber helps keep ride quality steady on rough roads.

Front shock on a lifted Jeep
A front shock on a lifted Jeep works hardest during steering and on uneven ground, and the lift height changes how much travel it uses. Shocks made for larger lifts need a stroke that matches the travel the lift allows, so check mounts and bump stops for clearance. Confirm the lift falls within the range the shock is designed for before fitting, since a mismatch can bind the shock at full compression.
Aluminum bodies conduct heat well, which helps on long downhill runs, but the seals still need periodic checks. Reservoir shocks also have a separate hose to watch. Inspect the body, shaft and bushings at oil changes or tire rotations, and replace worn bushings and hardware together to keep the front end tight.
