Description

Overview

The Fox 985-26-014 is a rear smooth body reservoir shock with a CD adjuster, for 2007–2018 Jeep Wrangler (JK) models with a 6.5 – 8 in. lift. It is a direct fit, bolt-on replacement with an aluminum body and gas charged design.

Fox’s engineers tested the design to maximize suspension travel on and off the road. This shock measures 33.95 inch extended and 19.85 inch collapsed, with 14.1 inch of stroke.

Key features

  • Smooth body reservoir housing with a CD adjuster
  • Aluminum body
  • Gas charged design
  • Direct fit rear position
  • Lift range of 6.5 – 8 in.

Rear damping on a lifted Wrangler

A rear shock on a lifted Wrangler carries much of the load when the rear axle travels up and down over washboard and ledges. Reservoir designs keep the oil in a separate chamber, which helps them resist heat fade during long descents and repeated rough sections. Check that the new shock clears the spare tire carrier, fuel lines and driveshaft through full compression and droop.

Most rear shocks wear first at the bushings and seals, so inspect them whenever the rear end feels loose or bounces after bumps. A worn bushing lets a new shock move in its mount. Replacing both rear shocks at once keeps the ride balanced, and checking the bump stops during the same job helps prevent metal-to-metal contact on a lifted setup.

  • Clearance check for the spare tire carrier
  • Inspect rear bushings before installing
  • Replace rear shocks in pairs

What are the length and stroke figures for part 985-26-014?

This aluminum rear shock measures 33.95 inch extended and 19.85 inch collapsed, with 14.1 inch of stroke. It is a gas charged design with a CD adjuster.

Is the 985-26-014 a gas charged shock?

Yes. The shock is gas charged, and it is a direct fit rear unit for a 6.5 - 8 in. lift range.
