Overview
The Crown Automotive Driveshaft Boot and Clamp Kit, part number 5083001K, is a driveshaft boot kit with clamps for Jeep driveshafts. It covers front and rear driveshaft applications, several without the Rubicon package, and one with 2WD and manual transmission.
Key features
- Boot and clamp kit for a driveshaft
- Front and rear driveshaft applications
- Several applications are without the Rubicon package
- One listed application is 2WD with manual transmission
Driveshaft boot maintenance
A driveshaft boot protects the universal joint or constant velocity joint from road grit, water and debris. Once it cracks, grease escapes and the joint runs dry, which leads to vibration and early wear. A torn boot often shows as grease spatter on the inside of the wheel or underbody, so check the area after trail runs and car washes.
When installing a kit, clean the joint and the shaft surface so the boot seats properly. Use the clamps to secure both ends firmly, and check that the boot is not twisted or stretched once the vehicle is at ride height. Pay attention to the drivetrain on your vehicle, since rear and front joints face different loads and exposure.
- Inspect for grease spatter after off-road use
- Check clamp tension after the first drive
