Before you install a slotted rotor
Slots cut into the friction surface help clear debris and gas from between the pad and the disc, which can make braking feel more consistent in wet or muddy conditions. Slots also leave small edges that the pads wear against, so some dust and a faint pattern on the pads is normal. A short hat keeps the friction surface closer to the hub, so the mounting face must be clean and free of rust before the rotor is seated.
Because the rotor is directional, the first step is to confirm the right side before tightening anything. Check the hub register, clean away any rust ridges and make sure the rotor spins without wobble before the caliper goes back on. Pads, caliper hardware and the tone ring are separate parts, so inspect them while the wheel is off and replace any that look worn.

Installation notes
Because the surface is slotted and the rotor is directional, check that it is on the right side before tightening. Align the 2.799 inch center hole with the hub register. Rotors are sold individually, so plan on a separate left-side part for the other wheel. Brake components are safety-critical, so have the work verified by a qualified technician.
