Description

Overview

The TeraFlex Heavy-Duty Transmission Skid Plate, part number 4607100, protects the underside of the transmission on Jeep Wranglers from 1997 to 2006. It fits both manual and automatic transmissions.

The plate attaches to the TeraFlex BellyUp skid plate. It is laser cut from 3/16-inch steel and powder coated black. It must be used with the BellyUp skid and the TeraFlex HD oil pan skid plate, so it is not a stand-alone protector.

Key features

  • Fits 1997-2006 Wranglers with manual or automatic transmissions
  • Protects the underside of the transmission
  • Attaches to the TeraFlex BellyUp skid plate
  • 3/16-inch laser cut steel
  • Black powder coat finish

Working with the BellyUp setup

This plate covers the transmission from below, but it is designed as part of a set rather than a standalone guard. It attaches to the BellyUp skid, which carries the load of rocks and stumps into the frame, and it works alongside the oil pan skid to cover the lower front of the drivetrain. Thinking of the three pieces together helps when planning installation and when deciding what to inspect after a trail day.

Transmission skids often get replaced when a driver upgrades tires or adds a lift, because larger tires shift the approach angle and bring rocks into contact with lower parts. Before ordering, confirm that the BellyUp and oil pan skids are already fitted or planned, and check that the crossmember has room. Look at how the wiring and shift linkage run before bolting anything, since both sit close to the underside of the transmission.

  • Confirm the BellyUp and oil pan skids are in place
  • Check the crossmember for clearance
  • Inspect welds and mounting points after rough trails
  • Keep trail mud from packing around the plate

Questions & Answers

Does the TeraFlex 4607100 fit a manual transmission?

Yes. It fits 1997 to 2006 Wranglers with manual or automatic transmissions, so the transmission type does not limit the fit.

Can the 4607100 be used alone?

No. It must be used with the BellyUp skid plate and the TeraFlex HD oil pan skid plate, so both parts are needed for the setup.

Does the 4607100 need drilling?

No. Installation requires no cutting or drilling. The plate attaches to the BellyUp skid plate, so that part must be in place before fitting it.

What steel is the 4607100 made from?

It is laser cut from 3/16-inch steel and powder coated black for durability. It is made for both manual and automatic transmissions.

Should the transmission skid be inspected after trail use?

Yes. Look at the mounting points, the BellyUp connection and any scrape marks on the powder coat. Tighten hardware that has loosened and touch up any bare steel. Rock strikes that bend the plate should be addressed before the next trip, since a bent edge can catch on obstacles.

Can the transmission skid be swapped for a different style?

Only after confirming the new part mounts to the same attachment points and works with the BellyUp setup. Different skid styles may not connect to the BellyUp in the same way. Review the mounting method first, then check clearance with the transmission and crossmember before committing to the change.
