Description

Overview

The Smittybilt M1 612800 is a front winch bumper for Dodge trucks, built from 3/16″ cold rolled steel with 1/4″ mounting plates and finished in black powder coat. It has D-ring mounts and a driving and fog light kit.

The bumper bolts on completely and needs no drilling. Its winch mount system holds a winch up to 16,500 lb. The center section is a solid plate that wraps the frame horns and the lower crossmember. The D-rings are 7/8-inch solid mounts welded on the inside and outside of the bumper.

Key features

  • Winch mount system for a winch up to 16,500 lb
  • 7/8 inch solid D-ring mounts, welded inside and out
  • Ultra Bright driving lights and fog lights
  • Plate center section wraps the frame horns and lower crossmember
  • 3/16″ cold rolled steel with 1/4″ mounting plates
  • Bolt-on installation without drilling

Owning a winch bumper

A front winch bumper carries the winch load into the frame, so the mount is only as good as the plate and the attachment points under it. Use a winch rated for the mount, keep the cable spooled evenly, and avoid side pulls that stress the bumper corners more than the center.

D-rings are for recovery straps and shackles, not for the winch itself. Use rated shackles and straps sized for the load, and inspect the welds around each D-ring after heavy use. Light kits add visibility at night, and their wiring should run on a fused circuit with clean, secure grounds.

Steel bumpers rust where mud collects and where the coating has chipped. Clean mud off after trail use, touch up exposed steel, and check bolts and welds periodically. Fresh powder coat helps protect the bumper, but chips along edges should be treated before they spread.

Questions & Answers

Is the Smittybilt 612800 for Dodge trucks?

Yes. It is built as the M1 front bumper for Dodge trucks. Confirm fit for your truck's year, model and trim before ordering.

How heavy a winch can the 612800 carry?

The winch mount system holds a winch up to 16,500 lb. The winch itself is a separate item that you add.

Does the 612800 bumper need drilling?

No. The M1 bolts on completely and needs no drilling, so it uses the truck's existing mounting points. Keep the winch within the mount rating and check the mounting before use.

What lights are in the 612800 kit?

The kit includes Ultra Bright driving lights and fog lights mounted with the bumper. Check the wiring and mounting positions against your truck before installing them.

Does a winch bumper need a new winch mount?

It depends on the winch. The bumper winch mount system is designed for a winch up to its rated load, so a new winch should be checked against that rating and its mounting pattern before it is installed.

How should the D-ring mounts be checked?

Look at the welds on both the inside and outside of each D-ring after rough use. Check that the D-ring moves freely, the bolts are tight, and there are no cracks in the plate around the welds before pulling a load.
