Overview
It is a stock-length CV front drive shaft for Jeep vehicles with a 4.0L engine and a 242 transfer case. It fits the 1995–1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ), including the Laredo, Limited, Orvis, SE and TSi trims.
The shaft is a CV design that does not require a slip yoke eliminator. It works with both direct-fit and universal-fit applications, so match the vehicle list below to your Grand Cherokee.
Key features
- Front drive shaft at stock length
- CV design
- No slip yoke eliminator required
- Matched to the 4.0L engine and 242 transfer case
Choosing a CV shaft
A CV shaft allows steady rotation through a wider range of angles than a standard universal joint, which suits the front axle as the suspension moves. Because the joints are sealed, they need less attention than open universal joints, but the boots still need to stay intact. A torn boot lets grease escape and dirt in, and the joint can fail gradually.
When replacing a front shaft, check the spline fit at both ends and the condition of the axle seals and pinion yoke. Wear on those parts can cause vibration or noise that looks like shaft failure. Replacing the shaft with the correct transfer case and engine match helps keep the driveline balanced.
- Inspect the CV boots for cracks or grease loss
- Check the axle seals for leaks after installation
