Overview
The Bilstein 5100 Series 24-158848 is a front steering stabilizer for Ford trucks, with fitment for the 2000–2005 Ford Excursion and the 1999–2004 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty. It is sold as a single stabilizer with no brackets and no shock boot.
The unit is a gas pressure monotube design, which Bilstein says eliminates cavitation and foaming in the damping oil. It uses digressive valving to control the steering movements it is built to damp. Its lower mount is an eye of 12mm and its upper mount is a cantilever, with an 11mm shaft and a zinc-plated finish.
Its collapsed length is 14.96 inches and its extended length is 23.03 inches, with a travel of 8.07 inches. This line is made in 36mm and 46mm versions as O.E. replacements, so check the body size of the damper you remove before ordering.

Gas monotube dampers explained
A gas pressure monotube keeps the damping oil free of gas bubbles, so the damper responds the same way over repeated strokes. Cavitation and foaming can make a steering damper feel inconsistent, which is why the gas charge matters. Digressive valving changes resistance with the speed of movement, so small quick inputs and larger slow ones are both controlled.
Gas monotube units tend to hold their feel for longer when the mounts are tight and the boot, if fitted, is intact. Inspect the body for oil seepage, check the eye and cantilever mounts for wear, and replace the unit if the steering feels loose or the damper no longer resists movement. Any worn steering joints should be addressed at the same time.
