Working with a single rotor
A directional rotor only works correctly on the side it was cast for, so mark the left and right parts before removing the wheel. Fitting a rotor backwards can affect cooling and balance, and it can make the braking feel uneven. Keep the hub face and wheel mounting surface clean and free of rust, since debris can cause runout and pulsation after installation.
Vented rotors rely on airflow between the friction faces to shed heat, so avoid painting or coating the cooling vanes. Bed in new pads with several moderate stops before heavy braking, and recheck lug nut torque after the first short drive. Check brake fluid when the pistons are pushed back to make room for a thicker pad or a new rotor.
