Overview
The ARB 5480100 is an Under Vehicle Protection (UVP) kit for the 2021–2022 Ford Bronco, made up of four steel skid panels in a gray powder coat.
ARB designs its UVP panels to protect vital underbody components including the steering, engine sump, transmission and transfer case. The Bronco kit suits owners who want continuous underbody protection from the front bumper back to the rear of the transfer case.
Under vehicle protection adds bolt-on steel under the vehicle so that rocks strike a panel rather than the oil pan, steering parts or transfer case. The panels are separate, so one can be removed for service without taking off the whole set. Routine servicing, such as reaching drain plugs, means removing and refitting panels, which also gives a chance to check for damage and packed-in dirt. The kit is finished in gray powder coat, and the only drain provision is for engine oil.
Key features
- Four panels designed to protect the steering, engine sump, transmission and transfer case
- Laser cut, press formed and folded 3mm sheet steel
- Front, sump, and transmission and transfer case panels bolt directly to the chassis
- Continuous protection from the front bumper to the rear of the transfer case
- Each panel has a return edge to add strength to the 3mm steel
- Removable insert in the second panel provides for draining engine oil
- Fits with or without an ARB front bumper
- No cutting or drilling required
Underbody protection on the trail
Skid plates take the hit from rocks and ledges so the oil pan, steering components and transfer case do not. Coverage is most useful on trails with ledges and rock steps, where a strike to the sump is common. Panels add weight under the truck and reduce ground clearance slightly, which is worth weighing for daily driving.
After the panels are fitted, inspect the fasteners after the first few trail runs and check the panel edges for dents that could catch on rocks. Keep drain areas clean before service so dirt does not fall into the sump. Packed mud holds moisture against steel, so clean the panel undersides after wet or muddy use.
- Check bolt tightness after rough trail use
- Look for bent return edges along panel edges
- Clear mud from panel undersides after wet trips
