Overview
The Trail Gear Rock Defense front bumper in bare steel, part number 120060-1-KIT, is a full-width winch bumper for the 1986-1989 Toyota 4Runner and the 1986-1988 Toyota Pickup. It is made from 1020 DOM tubing, 1.75 inch by .120 wall, with an unpainted steel finish.
Trail Gear says 1020 DOM resists dents better than HREW tubing and will not split down the seam. The winch plate is drilled for most 5000-9500 model low-profile winches and smaller 9.0R Warn competition winches, and a shackle receiver provides an anchor point for winch or strap recoveries. Turn signal mounting tabs are not included.

Matching the bumper to your rig
A front bumper changes the approach angle and adds weight at the nose, so it is worth thinking about the suspension and steering load it adds. Full-width steel bumpers are often paired with a winch, and the mounting plate should be checked against the winch’s bolt pattern before the bumper is fitted. Choose the fairlead type first, since it decides which winch can be used with this bumper.
Older frames can flex or crack around mounting points, so inspect the frame rails and bumper brackets before bolting on a heavy steel bumper. Clean and coat any bare steel within the first weeks of use, and check the welds and bolts after trail trips. The manufacturer fitment list for 120060-1-KIT covers the 1986-1989 Toyota 4Runner and the 1986-1988 Toyota Pickup.
Later 4Runner and Pickup years are not covered, and the Tacoma and Land Cruiser use different Trail Gear bumpers. Confirm your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering.
Installation notes
The bumper requires a hawse type fairlead and will not work with a roller type. It is not intended for use with a body lift, and turn signal mounting tabs are not included. For larger winches, minor grille trimming may be needed. The 1020 DOM tubing is designed to resist denting and seam splitting, which distinguishes it from HREW tubing.
