Overview
The Smittybilt G.E.A.R. Tailgate Cover is a black denim cover with two large storage pouches. It is made from 600 denier polyester with a PVC liner and is designed to match the G.E.A.R. line.
The pouches are interchangeable with PAL and MOLLE pouches, so existing pouches from other systems can be used.
Key features
- Two large storage pouches
- 600 denier polyester with PVC liner
- Black denim finish
- PAL and MOLLE compatible
Using the pouches
PAL and MOLLE are two webbing standards that let pouches from different manufacturers attach to the same load-bearing vest or pack. If you already carry gear built for either system, a cover with interchangeable pouches lets you move those items to the tailgate without buying a second set. Check that the attachment straps on your existing pouches match the webbing width used on the cover before you move them.
Fabric covers with a PVC liner resist moisture, but seams and webbing still need periodic checks. Brush off mud after trail use, let the cover air dry, and inspect stitching around the pouch attachments. Loose thread or fraying at the webbing is a sign the pouch should be reinforced or replaced before it is loaded with heavy gear.
- Compare strap width before swapping pouches
- Empty pouches before folding the cover
- Recheck pouch closures after rough trails
