Overview
The Smittybilt 10 inch drop aluminum ball mount in satin finish is a Class 4 hitch for towing trailers up to 8,000 lbs gross trailer weight, with an 800 lb tongue weight. The 10 inch drop lowers the ball for trailers that sit lower than the receiver.
The mount is made from hard anodized 6061 aluminum, which resists weather and helps the finish hold up. The forged aluminum body is lightweight compared with a steel drop hitch.
Key features
- 10 inch drop
- Class 4 rating
- Hard anodized 6061 aluminum
- Lightweight forged construction
- Satin finish
Drop height and trailer balance
A 10 inch drop moves the ball well below the receiver, which changes the angle between the tow vehicle and trailer. Steep angles can reduce trailer stability and put more stress on the hitch when the trailer is heavy. Before towing, check that the trailer sits roughly level, and avoid a drop larger than the coupler height actually needs.
Aluminum mounts are lighter to lift in and out of the receiver, which helps when the hitch is removed often. Inspect the mount periodically for cracks around the welds and bends in the drop, and look at the pin holes for elongation. Replace the mount if the drop shows any bending or the pins no longer seat fully.
- Check trailer level after each hitching
- Inspect the drop for bends or cracks
- Keep the hitch pin seated and clipped
- Recheck tongue weight after loading the trailer

Vehicle fitment
No vehicle or model years are named for this mount. Check that your receiver is the 2 inch size the mount is designed for, and confirm that your towing vehicle is rated for the trailer weight.
Confirm your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering.
Installation notes
The 10 inch drop changes the ball height, so measure the trailer’s coupler height against the receiver height before buying. Keep the combined load within the Class 4 limits of 8,000 lbs gross trailer weight and 800 lbs tongue weight.
