Overview
The Poison Spyder Customs Steering Box Skid Plate, part number 13-15-010, is a satin black steel guard for the steering box on a Jeep.
Its 3/16 inch high pressure steel plate is CNC laser cut, brake formed and professionally MIG welded. The skid is built for trail strikes rather than road use.
Key features
- CNC laser cut from 3/16 inch high pressure steel plate
- Brake formed and professionally MIG welded
- Powder coated in satin black
- Mounting hardware included, with some OEM hardware reused
Planning a skid install
A steering box skid sits low under the front of the vehicle, so it takes hits from rocks and ledges that would otherwise strike the steering components. Steel plate protects the box and its linkage from those strikes, but it also adds weight and can alter the approach angle slightly. Choose the skid with trail use in mind rather than for appearance alone.
Before fitting, mark the drilling points carefully and check the clearance to the steering linkage and any brake lines. Use fresh hardware where the kit provides it, and keep reused factory bolts clean and tight. After the first hard trail session, inspect the welds and the coating for chips and fresh scrapes, and touch them up early.
- Mark drilling points before cutting
- Check clearance to linkage and lines
- Touch up chips in the powder coat
