Overview
The Poison Spyder Customs 11-53-010-PC is a black powder-coated aluminum hood louver for Jeeps. It vents the engine bay so hot air can escape from the upper area of the engine compartment.
Overheating is a common trail problem for Jeeps and slow-moving rock crawlers. At low speed there is little airflow through the engine compartment, and on most vehicles the upper engine bay has no vent for hot air to leave. The louver is meant to promote airflow through and out of the engine bay, and it adds to the vehicle’s looks.

Hood cutting and heat flow
A hood louver is a permanent change to the body, so the decision deserves some planning. Heat rises in the engine bay, and a vent in the hood gives it a path out. On a warm day with the engine idling in traffic or crawling a steep section, that path can make the difference between a cool engine bay and one that soaks up heat from the exhaust and manifolds.
Before cutting, check the clearance under the hood, the position of the battery, air intake, wiring harness and any hood struts or latches. Mark the cut line carefully and confirm the template sits clear of these items. Metal dust can scratch paint, so cover the surrounding surface and clean up thoroughly afterward.
After installation, check that the hood closes evenly and that the louver edges do not rub anything. Painting exposed cut edges helps keep corrosion from starting.
