Choosing a T86 bearing
The input bearing in these older Jeep transmissions supports the front of the input shaft and keeps it aligned with the gears behind it. When this bearing wears, the transmission may make a humming or whirring sound that changes with engine speed, and shifting can feel rough. Oil seeping around the front of the case can also point to a worn bearing or a seal that has been stressed by shaft movement.
Before buying, match the bearing to the transmission model and confirm the shaft diameter against your old part. Inspect the input shaft for roughness or play while the transmission is open. Check the clutch parts too, since the release bearing and disc sit close to this bearing and wear at the same time.
