Removing old push rivets
Push rivets hold fender flare sections together with a spring-loaded center pin that locks into the body, so the old rivet is usually removed by releasing that pin rather than pulling the body. Once the pin is out, the body can be pried free with a trim tool. Work carefully, because the plastic body can crack if it is levered from the wrong side.
Before fitting a new rivet, check the holes for elongation and cracks. A worn hole may hold the new rivet loosely, which can let the flare creak or shift. Keeping water and grit out of the fender area helps the plastic stay clean and in good shape over time.
