Fender flare fit notes
Fender flares cover the tire area and are usually held on by a row of screws and nuts along the body edge. Over decades, the holes and fasteners on older CJ bodies can loosen, rust or elongate, so the first step is to clean each mounting point and check for rust before fitting new hardware. Sound, clean threads hold the flare steadily and reduce rattles on rough roads.
Because the flare sits close to the tire, alignment matters. Set each flare by eye against the body line, then tighten the fasteners in a set order so the flare does not pull out of shape. Check tire clearance at full steering lock and over bumps, since the flare can rub on a tire that has moved. Touch up any bare metal with a rust-inhibiting primer before reinstalling.
