Overview
The G2 Dana 44 30 Spline 3.73 Down Full Spool, part 85-2033-3, is a rear full spool for a Dana 44 with 30 splines. The title sets it for 3.73 and down gear ratios.
G2 machines the spool from 4130 billet steel to keep it light while handling demanding use. A full spool sends power to both wheels even when one is in the air, so the vehicle keeps traction on both sides.
Key features
- CNC machined from 4130 billet steel
- Light weight design
- Full spool with 30 splines
- Rear Dana 44 position
Before installing a full spool
A full spool locks both rear wheels to turn at the same speed, which changes how the vehicle steers and corners. On loose surfaces and rock trails it can help when one wheel loses grip, but on pavement the same lock can make turns feel abrupt. Many owners use a locker like this only when they need it and keep the axle in open mode for daily driving.
Before fitting one, look at the rest of the drivetrain. The ring gear and pinion, carrier bearings and axle shafts all carry the extra load of a locked axle, so inspect them for wear first. Check the ring gear ratio against the spool range and confirm that the pinion setup is correct before the axle is closed up.
- Inspect the axle shafts and carrier bearings for wear
- Check the ring gear and pinion pattern after install
- Plan for a firmer feel on pavement

Confirm your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering.
Installation notes
A full spool locks both wheels together, so it changes steering and handling. Gear setup and the axle’s ring gear must match the 3.73 and down ratio.
