Description

Overview

The Fox Racing Shox 3.0 Factory Series Coilover Reservoir Shock, part 883-02-046, is a front coilover shock with an internal bypass design and a remote reservoir. It is sold as a pair and uses a direct bolt-on design.

The 3.0 internal bypass design increases oil capacity and offers 60% more damping area than the stock FOX SVT shocks. It keeps the ride plush on normal off-road driving and increases damping force for extreme use. The remote reservoirs use a large -10 hose to improve cooling. Components also used on the off-road Trophy Truck shocks include Eibach springs, Teflon lined spherical bearings, racing oil and Viton seals.

Key features

  • 3.0 internal bypass design
  • 7/8 in. shaft
  • Remote reservoir with a large -10 hose
  • Smooth-bore alloy bodies
  • Spherical bearings
  • Viton seals
  • Anodized 6061-T6 aluminum construction
  • Direct bolt-on mounting

Remote reservoir setup

A coilover shock combines the damper and spring in one assembly, so changes to ride height or spring preload affect how the damper works. Remote reservoirs add oil capacity and move the gas cushion away from the hot damper body, which helps during extended trail use. The hose needs a secure route that avoids brake lines, exhaust heat and moving suspension parts. A clamp or bracket at each end keeps the hose from chafing.

Spherical bearings handle the angle changes of a front suspension, but they wear over time and can develop play that shows up as clunking or steering looseness. Check the bearings and the shaft for scoring during service, and replace worn spherical bearings before they damage the shaft. Viton seals resist heat and oil, yet they still need inspection for leaks at the shaft. Keep the reservoir and hose clean so debris is not drawn into the seals.

Vehicle fitment

It is a direct fit design with no specific vehicle, year or chassis code assigned. Check the mounting dimensions against your front end before installing these shocks.

Confirm your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering.

Installation notes

Coilover assemblies carry spring load, so support the vehicle and the suspension safely during removal and installation. Remote reservoirs need room for the reservoir and the -10 hose, so confirm clearance before fitting.

What’s included

The shocks are sold as a pair. Check the package contents to confirm whether springs, hoses and hardware come with the pair before starting the install.

Questions & Answers

Does the Fox 883-02-046 come as a pair?

Yes. It is sold as a pair of front shocks with a direct bolt-on design. Check mounting dimensions against your vehicle before fitting.

Does it have a remote reservoir?

Yes. The shock has a remote reservoir connected by a large -10 hose, which Fox says increases the shock's cooling capability. The reservoir is part of the coilover reservoir design named in the title.

Will it fit my vehicle?

The shock is a direct fit design with no specific vehicle, year or chassis code assigned. Confirm the fit for your year, model and trim, and check the mounting dimensions before installing.

What shaft size and bearings does it use?

It uses a 7/8 in. shaft with spherical bearings that are Teflon lined, plus Viton seals. The bodies are smooth-bore alloy, and the construction is anodized 6061-T6 aluminum.

How should I maintain a coilover reservoir shock?

Inspect the shaft and seals for oil seepage and check the hose for chafing at each service. Keep the body and reservoir clean, and have a qualified shop check the damping and bearings after heavy use.
