Overview
The Crown Automotive 4423573 is an inner caliper bushing for the front disc brakes on Jeep Cherokee XJ, Grand Cherokee, Liberty, Commander and Wrangler models.
A floating brake caliper slides on pins or sleeves, and the bushing is the rubber insert that lets that slide happen smoothly. When a bushing hardens or tears, the caliper can bind and wear pads unevenly. This Crown Automotive part is the inner bushing for the front brakes.
The part is a direct fit, and its coverage spans more than a dozen model years across several Jeep families, so match your exact year before ordering.
A floating caliper slides on pins or sleeves, and a hardened or swollen inner bushing can stop that slide. The result is uneven pad wear or a brake that drags. Replacing the inner bushing while the caliper is off is a modest job. This part covers the inner position only; if your caliper also uses an outer bushing, that is a separate part and is not included.

Recognizing inner bushing wear
Inner caliper bushings tend to age slowly, so the change is easy to miss during routine pad service. Look for rubber that has cracked, flattened, swelled, or torn at the edges. A bushing that has lost its shape can let the caliper sit crooked on its slide pins, which often shows first as one pad wearing faster than the other. Brake dust packed around the bushing and dried grease that has turned hard are other signs that the slide is not moving freely.
When the caliper is removed, clean the slide pins and the bore, then check that the bushing moves smoothly once the pin is refitted. Replacing pads without addressing a sticking slide tends to shorten the life of the new pads. Pair the bushing work with a check of the brake hose and the rotor surface so the whole front brake assembly is reviewed in one pass.
- Uneven pad wear on one side
- Caliper that sticks or drags after braking
- Cracked or swollen rubber at the bushing
- Dried or hardened grease on the slide pin
