Overview
The Trail Gear 140066-1 is a high pinion oil slinger. A slinger is a shield on the pinion gear that flings lubricant onto the gear teeth. It is a direct fit, and UPC 70000621296 identifies it.
Key features
- High pinion oil slinger
- Pinion oil slinger for axle gears
- Direct fit
- Part number 140066-1
Pinion seal and lubrication
A pinion slinger sits behind the pinion yoke and flings gear oil outward, helping keep lubricant on the ring gear and the pinion bearings. It works alongside the pinion seal, which holds oil inside the carrier. When the slinger is cracked, bent or loose, oil can reach the seal lip in a way the seal was not designed to handle, and leaks often follow.
When the carrier is open for gear service, inspect the slinger for cracks, bends and metal contact marks. Check that it sits flat against the pinion and that the lip is not folded. Reinstall it facing the correct direction, and recheck the pinion seal for seepage once the drive has run for a while. Re-check fasteners after the first few trail runs.
- Inspect the slinger for cracks or bends
- Check the pinion seal for leaks at the same time
- Keep the carrier oil level correct after service

Vehicle fitment
Match the pinion position to your current setup and your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering. The slinger has to suit the pinion you already run, so compare it with the part being replaced.
