Key features
- Fits Model 18, Model 20 and Quadra-Trac transfer cases
- One seal needed per yoke
- Used at the front or rear output shaft
- Omix-Ada OE replacement design
Output shaft seal basics
The output shaft seal sits where the yoke passes out of the transfer case and keeps gear oil from leaking along the shaft. Seals of this type harden with heat and age, and a leak often starts as a faint film around the yoke before the fluid level drops noticeably.
Yoke seals are usually replaced with the driveshaft removed, and the yoke nut and flange should be inspected at the same time. A pitted or grooved yoke surface can cut a new seal, so smooth or replace it if the surface is damaged. Use a seal driver rather than a hammer to avoid bending the seal lip.
Check the transfer case fluid level after replacing the seal, and watch for seepage over the next few drives. Match the seal to your case type before fitting it, and keep the old seal to compare dimensions.
- Film of fluid around the yoke
- Pitted or grooved yoke surface
- Falling fluid level between services
