Description

Overview

The Omix-ADA 17401.08 is a black 4.2L aluminum valve cover kit that replaces the factory plastic cover on a 4.2L engine. It is built as a direct OE replacement Jeep part and carries a limited five year warranty.

The kit includes a cork valve cover gasket, an oil fill cap, PVC grommets and allen head bolts in two sizes. Drilling is needed, so this is not a plain bolt-on swap, and some preparation is required before the cover goes on.

Key features

  • Aluminum construction with a black powder coat finish
  • Replaces the factory plastic valve cover on a 4.2L engine
  • Finned style
  • Includes cork valve cover gasket and oil fill cap
  • Includes PVC grommets, 5/16” and 1/4” allen head bolts, and standard screws
  • Limited five year warranty

Before the cover goes on

A valve cover protects the top of the engine, holds the cam and rocker area, and keeps oil where it belongs. Aluminum handles heat well, but it also needs careful sealing. Because this kit needs drilling, measure and mark your holes against the old cover, and clear every metal chip before the engine is started.

Gasket and bolt tension matter as much as the cover itself. Clean both mating surfaces with a solvent that leaves no residue, seat the cork gasket dry, and tighten fasteners in a crisscross pattern in stages. Check the PVC grommets and oil fill cap for cracks, and replace them if they feel brittle. Look for seepage at the cover edges after the first few drives.

  • Mark drill points before removing the old cover
  • Keep a magnet and shop vacuum nearby for chips
  • Replace the cork gasket if it is cracked or compressed
  • Re-torque the bolts after the first heat cycles
