Adjusting compression damping
Compression damping controls how firmly the shock resists being pushed in, which affects how the front or rear end reacts when a wheel hits a bump. Rebound damping, which controls how fast the shock extends, is a separate setting and works together with compression. Adjusting one side changes the feel of the other, so make changes gradually.
Stroke and the collapsed and extended lengths decide how much travel the shock can use, so a CD adjustment cannot fix a shock that is too short or too long for the application. Before adjusting, confirm the shock’s length matches the mounts and the travel you need. Make a note of each change so you can return to a setting that works.
