Overview
The Flex-A-Lite 282 is a full-size truck electric cooling fan, part number 282. It has a glass reinforced nylon shroud and a 5500 speed control.
Key features
- 5500 Speed Control
- Glass reinforced nylon shroud
- Designed to support engine cooling under load
- Designed to help fuel economy at highway speeds
- Designed to help torque output
- Listed by Flex-A-Lite as direct fit
Fitting a truck electric fan
A truck electric fan takes over cooling when the engine runs slowly or idles, so mounting and airflow matter as much as the fan itself. The shroud directs air through the radiator core, and the fan blades need clearance inside it. Check that the shroud seals against the radiator and that the fan does not rub at any point of travel.
Electrical setup is a common gap. Use a relay and a fuse rated for the fan’s current draw, and add a temperature control so the fan runs when the engine needs it. Worn radiator hoses or loose shroud mounts can reduce the benefit of a new fan, so inspect those at the same time.
- Check blade clearance inside the shroud
- Use a relay for the fan’s power feed
- Add a temperature control for automatic operation
- Inspect shroud mounts and seals before installing

Confirm your vehicle’s year, model and trim before ordering.
Installation notes
Size the fuse and relay to the fan’s current draw, and confirm that rating before wiring. Check blade clearance inside the shroud after mounting and before the first run.
What’s included
Check the package contents against your installation before starting.
Not included: Wiring, a relay and a fuse are not included, so plan on sourcing them separately.
