Pump swap planning
A water pump swap is simpler when the old pump is inspected first. Look for coolant seepage at the weep hole, rust around the housing and any play in the pulley bearing. Those signs suggest the pump is worn or leaking, and replacing it is a sensible step while the belt and hoses are already off.
Plan the job around parts that are often replaced at the same time. Thermostat, hoses, belt and radiator cap are common choices, and the coolant should be refilled and bled after the pump is in place. Check for leaks at the housing and hose ends after a warm-up run and again after the first few drives.
- Inspect the belt for cracks and glazing
- Bleed air from the system after refilling
