Description

Overview

The Crown Automotive 33002920K is an engine vibration damper and oil seal set for the 4.0L six-cylinder engine. It is packaged as a kit, so the damper and its oil seal come together.

The kit fits Jeep Cherokee XJ, Comanche, Grand Cherokee ZJ and WJ, Wagoneer SJ and several Wrangler models.

Key features

  • Damper and oil seal in one set
  • Designed for the 4.0L six-cylinder engine
  • Engine vibration damper for crankshaft vibration control
  • Part number 33002920K with UPC 848399075748

Seal replacement basics

A crankshaft oil seal works against a smooth metal surface, so the surface condition matters as much as the seal itself. Before pressing a new seal in, clean the sealing area and check for grooves, rust or scoring. A seal pressed onto a damaged surface tends to leak soon after installation, even when the seal is new.

Lubricate the seal lip lightly with clean engine oil so it does not run dry on startup. Drive it straight and evenly rather than hammering. Replacing the seal whenever the damper comes off is a sensible habit. Once the job is complete, watch the front of the engine for seepage over the next few days, and check the oil level afterward. Small leaks are easier to catch early.

Questions & Answers

What is included in the 33002920K set?

The kit contains an engine vibration damper and an oil seal for the 4.0L six-cylinder. Check for bolts, belts and pulleys against your installation before starting.

Does the 33002920K fit a Wrangler TJ?

Yes. It fits Wrangler TJ models from 1997 to 2004 with Rubicon, Sahara, Sport and X trims, along with the Cherokee XJ, Grand Cherokee ZJ and WJ, Comanche and Wagoneer SJ entries.

What finish does the set have?

Look over the damper's appearance when it arrives and compare it with your existing unit, since the finish is a visual check.

When should the oil seal be replaced along with the damper?

Replace the seal whenever the damper comes off, since removal often disturbs the seal lip. Check the crankshaft sealing surface for grooves, rust or scoring first. A new seal on a damaged surface tends to leak early.
