Overview
The Warn ZEON 10-S is a 10000 lb electric recovery winch, part number 89611, supplied with 100 ft of 3/8 Spydura synthetic rope and a remote switch with a 12 ft lead. It has a 12V series-wound motor and a 216:1 gear ratio. ZEON is Warn’s newer winch family, and Warn says its internal components, planetary geartrain and sealing were upgraded over earlier designs.

Choosing a mounting position
The mounting point matters as much as the winch itself. A bumper or winch plate has to carry the pulling load in line with the vehicle frame, so the mount should be rated for the winch and stay square to the drive direction. Measure the space behind the bumper and check clearance for the control pack before settling on a layout.
Thinking about the control pack early helps. A pack mounted on the winch keeps wiring short and simple. A remote pack can be placed where it is easier to reach while you stand clear of the rope, but it needs its own mounting spot and cable run. Keep the remote lead away from hot exhaust parts and moving suspension components, and route it so it cannot snag on brush during a recovery.
